Same goes for the antagonists who were definitely the highlight of the story with how diverse their methods of villainy were, but with an insane level of ruthlessness across the board. My favorites were probably the Knight and Archibald. Her thoughtful nature also showcased the other characters' complexities really well as she questions and considers their motivations. So, it was nice to see that she approached the situation with more level-headedness. Usually in these types of arranged marriage stories, the main character is irritatingly stubborn and pointlessly argues with her fiancé or her/his family without fully considering the consequences, especially in the beginning. Ophelia's quiet resolve and rationality surprised me more times than I thought it would. It started out strong with the introduction of our protagonist. This is a hard review to write because the novel left me with largely lukewarm feelings.
